The Ancient city of Jiaohe, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China
Jiaohe or Yarkhoto is a ruined city in the Yarnaz Valley, 10km west of the city of Turpan and dates back to 108BC. It was a natural fortress located atop a steep cliff on a plateau between two deep river valleys and was an important stop along the silk road. Walking around this lost city was an amazing experience. We got there just in time to start to see the sun going down. The light was magical. Below are some more images from this part of the world.
