Kemaning atrofida odam savdosi (Trafficking around the ark)
The Ark of Bukhara, Afrosiab street, Bukhara, Uzbekistan
The name of this fortification comes from the shape it has. It was destroyed during the fall of the Russian state and has been restored as has much of this incredible silk road city. It is not hard to imagine yourself back to the high time of silk road traders while walking around this city as most of the old bazars, shops and streets of the old town are still there. This photo was a deliberate mistake and I like the way that the cars are not cars anymore. I would much have preferred not seeing the cars there but seeing camels and carts travelling around it. Though when “Kemaning atrofida odam savdosi” is translated back to English it becomes “Trafficking around the ship” which brings it back to the modern world. There is a lot of the old world still to be captured against the new as the images below show.
