Welcome to the exhibition details for "A Monochromatic Perspective"  by Toni Harris. This exhibition was shown at the Ballarat Foto Biennale as part of the 2021 Open Program.  The exhibition is now closed but the works shown are still available for purchase. If you find yourself in Ballarat at the Red Peppa Restaurant, 6 images from the exhibition have remained and will be there until further notice.
Exhibition details
Meaning:
Monochromatic:/mɒnə(ʊ)krəˈmatɪk/ Having only one colour, represented by differing hues, tints & shades in black & white.
Perspective: /pəˈspɛktɪv/ A particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view.
Life is quirky, big, beautiful. This collection of images are moments painted in light from distant lands, cultures, and people that even though they are far away, we can still relate to them. Highlighting little pocketed memories these works show a particular attitude, regard, or a slightly different point of view or way of seeing things. Presenting them in black and white and their associated greys helps I think, only to make them stand out more. As with life though, it's not always black and white. I use a high quality GSM Rag Matt paper to print my images on which has its own texture and is not bright white. A reflection on life in general.
We all hope for unfettered travel to begin again soon but, until then, these images might allow you to continue to dream, ponder, and be surprised. They did for me when putting them all together for this exhibition during lockdown while I remembered and dreamed of being in and travelling too far off realms again.

About the  artist:
Toni Harris
My work is heavily influenced by my biggest muse, travel. I am comfortable in the clothing of a street photographer but wear many hats. That of a social, landscape, portrait photographer and teacher of this great art. I love the alchemy of a darkroom and the endless possibilities of digital.  Click on and check out some more of my work on the links below.
I would like to thank my partners in this exhibition. Millie at Red Peppa on Sturt, Jeff Grant Fine Art Printing in Ballan, Chris Brown from Frame n Art in Chiltern, Corowa Jewellery, my Mum Lyn for helping me hang the exhibition and finally my life partner, Stephen Lane AKA Panda who's patience and support through all of this has been endless.
